Provide individualized care for patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. Work cooperatively with physicians and other staff members. Demonstrates in! itiative, insight, and judgment in making decision. Works within the guidelines and scope of practice in the TN/MS Nurse Practice Act for RNs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initiates physician orders, treatment and bedside care in a timely and orderly manner.
Operates efficiently and monitors the use of blood pressure machine, EKG, IV infusion systems, O2, suction devices.
Assists with check-in of patients when scheduled and/or when needed. Follows policy and procedure for admission of ASC Patients.
Appropriately delegates tasks to NA, CNA, LPN, Scope Room Staff and Endoscopy personnel as necessary.
Receive reports from the CRNA. Works and interacts with co-workers to accomplish overall ASC goals.
Performs safety checks of emergency equipment and supplies.
Assesses the post-op patient immediately upon arrival to the Recovery Room to include: pain, bleeding, drainage, dressings, abdomen, IV infusions, level of! consciousness, vital signs, 02 saturation, airway patency and! 02 exchange.
Accurately documents all vital signs, assessments, medications given, treatments done and any teaching/instructions given to patient/family or caregiver in a professional and grammatically correct manner.
Provides pre and post-op teaching to the patient/family or caregiver.
Reports deviations in the patient’s assessment to the MD and/or Nurse Manager.
Follows infection control guidelines and practices standard precautions as trained or instructed.
Assures correct patient, medication, dosage, route of administration, time and purpose of mediation and utilizes knowledge of commonly used drugs.
Utilizes a broad-based knowledge of medications is regard to desired effect, side effects, adverse reactions, and recommended doses. Administer medications accurately per MD orders IV, IM, PO or Subcutaneous.
Provides moderate sedation to patients as needed during procedures. Ensures proper cardio-respiratory! monitoring during procedure.
Assist with Endotherapy injections in the procedure rooms as necessary.
Assist with Peg Procedures in the procedure rooms per Policy and Procedure using sterile technique and with PEG tube replacements in Procedure or Recovery rooms per policy and procedures.
Maintains par levels of supplies and medication. Checks for expiration dates monthly.
Counts narcotics and records properly any used or wasted. Knows proper policy/procedure for actions when count is not correct.
Starts IV’s using proper aseptic techniques, secures properly and starts appropriate IV fluids for patients. Dates and initials IV fluid bag.
Accesses porta-caths with proper aseptic techniques.
Assesses and documents condition of IV site and fluids upon discharge.
Maintains competency in Point of Care Testing â€" Blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing and Clo tests.
Competent in calibration of! blood glucose device, skill of use, collection of specimen and reading! the monitor.
Responds quickly and appropriately to emergency situations requiring immediate medical intervention. Demonstrates understanding of proper steps to transporting patients to hospital in an emergency situation.
Responds and assesses CT patients who are having adverse reactions and responds appropriately per protocol.
Assesses and adheres to the overall safety of the patient, visitor and employee at all times.
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Participates in any on going performance improvement plans.
Discharges patients when criteria met with instructions given/questions answered and all necessary appointments, lab work or tests scheduled.
Performs designated functions during code situation as assigned.
Inserts, evaluates and monitors the use of colon rectal tubes and nasogastic tubes as applicable.
Knowledgeable in the use and care of colostomies.
Performs PEG Care/teachin! g per policy and procedure.
Performs phlebotomy for stat lab work.
Successfully completes all G.I. Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center training requirements (i.e. OSHA, HIPAA, Safety compliance, etc.).
Responsible for following and compliance with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include, but are not limited to AAAHC Standards, Medicare and state specific regulations, OSHA, HIPPA, Federal Fraud and Abuse Laws.
Performs all duties in a manner that conforms to the Mission, Vision and policies of GI Diagnostic and Therapeutic Center.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
JOB EXPOSURE DETERMINATION :
Involves occupational exposure to blood, tissue, or body fluids.
Required Experience:
Current Registered Nurse Licensure with the State of TN and MS.
Prior acute care experience on a med-surg, ICU, or surgical setting preferred, BLS current.
ACLS within 6 months of hire. Successfully pass color blind screeni! ng.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Instruct all Non-Registered Nurse job categories in the ASC relating to clinical and patient safety issues.
Works cooperatively with Endoscopy Center co-workers and physicians.
Presents a friendly, courteous and helpful manner in all interactions.
