The Pain Management Anesthesiologist will function as a consultant in evaluating, diagnosing, initiating and implementing comprehensive pain management modalities including basic and advanced interventional techniques. the Pain Management Anesthesiologist reports administratively to the Chief, Anesthesiology Service.

Clinical Responsibilities

Evaluate patients presenting with pain by completing a targeted history and physical examination and interpretation of radiological studies.
Ab! ility to proficiently perform diagnostic and therapeutic invasive proce! dures including but not limited to radio frequency techniques, spinal cord stimulator implantation, caudal and epidural blocks, lumbar sympathetic nerve blocks, celiac plexus and splanchnic nerve blocks, intercostals nerve blocks, lumbar sympathetic blocks, other upper and lower plexus blocks.
Expertise in the following anesthesia core requirements: assessing, consulting and preparing patients for anesthesia; rendering patients insensible to pain during surgical, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures; monitoring and restoring homeostasis in perioperative and critically ill patients; diagnosing and treating painful syndromes; managing cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse group of professional staff and management officials.

Administrative Responsibilities
Evaluation and supervision of mid level practitioners. Assisting with Pain Clinic schedules and other activities. Assisting with creat! ion of policies and standard operating procedures for safe operation of the Pain Clinic Meet relevant service level and medical center performance measures. Teaching medical students and residents. Provide educational information to Pain Clinic staff and other physician staff as needed. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Inorder to qualify for this position you must meet the following

Basic Requirements

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.

Education . Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

(2) Schools o! f osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association! for the year in which the degree was granted.

(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

Licensure and Registration

Physicians. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.

English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by! 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
