Description: Vanderbilt University is at present recruited IONM Specialist II - Neurodiagnostic EEG, FT Days right now, this position will be placed in Tennessee. An Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Specialist II is responsible for performing complex neurodiagnostic studies in the operative environment without direct technical supervision. This employee has completed a minimum of 150 intraoperative studies and has proven competence in all neurodiagnostic modalities. This is an advanced position and mastery of most all neurodiagnostic modalities is expected. An Intraoperative Neuromonitoring Specialist II is able to complete all of the following! modalities: SSEP's, TCeMEP's, EEG's, sEMG's, tEMG's, and BAEP! 's. This employee must have a thorough knowledge of anesthetic drugs and their effects on study recordings. They must also have deep knowledge of advanced Neurosurgical, Vascular, ENT, and Orthopedic procedures and understand the anatomical structures at risk. This position requires technologist to customize diagnostic testing.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:
Review planned intraoperative procedure and orders for monitoring.

Determine the structures at risk to customize diagnostic approach

Determine diagnostic order suitability based on patient history and condition.

Make needed adjustments/suggestions to the surgical team.

Communicate with different departments, when needed, to obtain access to patient or patient records as needed for procedure

Prepare equipment for testing and communicate with operative staff if additional resources are needed.

Establish monitoring equipment in the operatin! g room to ensure patient electrical safety and ability to communicate with team members including anesthesiologist, surgeon, and nursing staff according to lab protocol.

Discuss baseline recordings with surgeon.

Monitor neurophysiologic central/peripheral functioning throughout the operative procedure communicating with surgeon, neurophysiologist, anesthesiologist and nursing staff.

Document in monitoring log, throughout the monitoring process, all relative communications/responses, physiological status, anesthetic adjustments and changes.

As instructed discontinue monitoring, remove all recording and stimulating electrodes, check electrode placement sites for potential problems, and notify appropriate personnel if problems are identified

The Neuromonitoring Specialist should clean/disinfect electrodes and equipment according to lab protocol. Restock equipment and supplies.

Print and distribute required documents accordi! ng to lab protocols

Charge and log patient

Conduct an! d establish lab protocol according to a manner consistent.

Teach and mentor students as assigned by Team Leader

Mentor IONM specialist I and serve as a subject matter expert in guiding them through daily activities.

Teach and coach surgical residents and fellows about neurodiagnostic testing and neurodiagnostic testing implements.

Teach and mentor students from the END allied health program on intraoperative neurodiagnostics.

Lecture in the neurophysiology fellowship program on Intraoperative Neuromonitoring and surgical procedures, as assigned/when avaliable

Serve as a departmental point of contact in the absence of the Team Leader and provide team with daily logistical and technical direction.

Provide case assignments

Update schedule and communicate changes with team

Direct technical aspects as they pertain to the duties of the day

Ensure all equipment is in working order and manage ! utilization to meet daily demands.

Basic Qualifications

Job requires High school graduate or GED and 2 years of experience or the equivalent.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration (LCR):
Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Certification
