KIPP SoCal Public Schools is a nonprofit organization that operates 23 tuition-free, open-enrollment charter public schools, within 20 Local Education Agencies (LEA), educating more than 10,000 students and supporting 6,800 alumni to and through college and beyond.

You Should Apply If
You enjoy building lasting relationships with students, creating strong and positive behavioral support plans, and growing as an educator and a teammate. This role will support middle students grades 5-8 at KIPP Sol Academy in East Los Angeles. The strongest applicants will be amazing relationship builders with students of that age.
Please note: This opening is a '23-'24 school year opening with a start date in mid-July 2023. The role will last for the length of the school year. At that time, the team member in the position can pursue a similar role with KIPP SoCal or, ideally, pursue a teaching position at KIPP Sol Academy or another KIPP SoCal site.
What You'll Do
- Build strong relationships with all middle school students, including and especially with those needing additional supports to be successful
- Support teacher in implementing classroom procedures and routines
- Maintain consistency in middle school classrooms with teacher vacancies when changes in substitute teachers occur, ensuring the student experience remains consistent even with a change in lead teacher
- Be willing to change classrooms as staffing needs necessitate to ensure consistency for students school-wide
- Support students during independent work time to ensure they are on task and able to complete work at the level of rigor expected
- In cases where there are students with specific behavioral needs, provide support in line with their individualized behavior plan
- Collaborate with other instructional assistants and grade level teachers to ensure support across classrooms is consistent and in line with KIPP Sol’s high expectations for both academics and character
You'll Be Qualified If You Have
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Passing score on the California Basic Skills Test (CBEST) or basic skills equivalency preferred
- Ideal candidates for the Instructional Assistant role are recent college graduates who are interested in pursuing a career as an educator.
