Description: Centennial Surgery Center is presently looking of RN OR right now, this position will be assigned in Tennessee. For detail informations about this position opportunity please give attention to these descriptions. STANDARDS OF CARE:
1. Accomplishes preoperative assessment of the patient prior to surgery.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
A. Always introduces self to patient.

B. I! dentifies patient by checking ID band and by verbal validation.

C. Verbally validates procedure with patient and checks surgical consent for

accuracy.

D. Review patient chart and patient preoperative assessment form. Verifies that

surgeon and anesthesiologist orders have been carried out with the results on

the chart.

E. Checks for ordered lab test results, completed history and physical. Completes

and signs OR checklist.

STANDARDS OF CARE:
2. Plans, prepares and utilizes the intraoperative nursing care of the patient, per the Nursing Care Plan Policy.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
A. Collects sterile supplies, equipment, and medications for the

intraoperative phase of patient care.

B. Verifies sterility of sterile items before placing on sterile field.

C. Identifies malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel and

removes it from area. !

D. Utilizes surgeon’s preference cards and make app! ropriate changes to ensure

that the information is current. Handles cards to be update in the approved

manner. Assists the OR team in creating preference cards for new

surgeons/new procedures.

E. Collects and obtains special equipment as indicated for specific patient needs.

F. Assures that room and equipment are clean prior to opening sterile supplies.

G. Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner.

H. Notifies supervisor of surgeon’s request or complaint.

I. Communicates with other staff members re: changes in instrument trays,

supplies and physician preferences.

J. Utilizes peers, as necessary, to aid in solving problems.

K. Determines appropriate priorities for activities.

L. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon.

M. Works with the Board Runner to anticipate scheduling/boarding conflicts and

resolve them.

STANDARDS OF CARE:
3. Implements patient care in the operating room.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
A. Assists in transporting patient to OR.

B. Assures safety in transferring patient on and off OR table.

C. Assists anesthesiologist and/CRNA as necessary.

D. Assures safe positioning of patient for maximum exposure of operative site.

E. Assures with appropriate interventions that patient is kept warm.

F. Performs scrub/prep of patient to physician’s satisfaction.

G. Continuously monitors patient and sterile field and takes appropriate action if a

problem occurs.

H. Provides additional supplies for use by the operative team as necessary.

I. Documents intraoperative nursing care completely and accurately.

J. Assists in quality assurance monitoring.

K. Assures that counts (sponge, needle, instrument) as necessary are accurate

and documented.

L. Communicates pa! tient status to pre-op or PACU prior to patient’s discharge from OR. !

M. Accompanies patient from OR, releasing patient to RN, reporting to PACU

nurse the patient’s condition, history, operative procedure, etc.

N. Assists in cleaning the operating room between cases.

O. Integrates concepts of good body mechanics and “standard” precautions in daily work, wearing personal protective equipment as directed by task at hand.

P. Functions in scrub role/assistant role if necessary (when qualified).

Q. Remains calm and functions well in emergencies.

R. Functions competently in role of RN monitor during IV sedation cases.

S. Follows Center policy in the handling of surgical specimens.

T. Documentation of occurrences and variances is complete, accurate and timely.

STANDARDS OF CARE

4. Maintains a high degree of efficiency in the use and management of high acuity equipment for surgery.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
A. All air equipment/! dental equipment

B. All operative microscopes

STANDARDS OF CARE

5. Assists in daily maintenance of the department.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
A. Restocks assigned room(s) each day.

B. Pulls cases for the next scheduled day as needed.

C. Sets up rooms for the next scheduled day as needed, gathering supplies and

equipment.

D. Assists in completing ! weekly/monthly work assignments i.e., par

levels, etc.
STANDARDS OF CARE

6. Utilizes interpersonal skills in effective manner.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
A. Serves as role model and resource person for peers and

co-workers.

B. Functions in role of team member. Assists in orienting new staff

members to the OR.

C. Maintains good relationships and communicates well with patients,

families, staff and physicians.

D. Communicates with and provides assistance for surgeons and personnel in a

kind and courteous manner.

E. Follows chain of command regarding inter- or interdepartmental problems.

F. Shares knowledge with co-workers through open communication.

G. Receptive of new ideas and change.

H. Accepts additional responsibility with enthusiasm and diligence.

I. Seeks out work to be completed, verifies with supervisor, makes self available

to perform daily tasks.

STANDARDS OF CARE
7. Maintains professional growth; demonstrates dependability and accountability.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
A. Attends required monthly in-services and reviews minutes of any meetings

missed.

B. Maintains current knowledge of advances in surgery; anesthesia and the peri-

operative field of nursing.

C. Maintains current knowledge of medical/legal trends in the operating room.

D. Evaluates suggestions objectively, accepts constructive criticism and seeks

guidance as needed.

E. Maintains current BLS certification.

F. Reports to work as schedules, on time, with no un-excused absences.

G. Accurately records daily arrival and departure through use of the time clock.

H Notifies supervisor in advance of tardiness or absence.

I. Willingly accepts assignments and performs effectively on a daily basis.

J. Adheres to dress code.

K. Requests vacat! ion and other time off according to Center’s policy.

L. Corr! ectly documents injuries or exposures using variance exposure forms.

M. Maintains confidentiality in regards to patient information.

Qualifications

Education:
The registered professional nurse must be a graduate of an accredited program of nursing education -- associate degree, diploma, or baccalaureate program. Must be registered or have a valid permit in the state of Tennessee.

Training and Experience:
Two years current experience in a clinical setting preferred. Experience in specialties comparable to the type currently practiced at the center is also preferred.
