Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for providing and directing individualized care during the immediate preoperative and postoperative period utilizing the nursing process and established standards of care. This requires assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patients through clinical knowledge and skills. Will treat all customers with actions that contribute to high levels of customer service.

Essential Duties:
Selects and prepares appropriate supplies for the pre-operative and post-operative procedure based on the OR Schedule, clinical knowledge, and the physician's plan of care.

Demonstrates a clear understanding of the anesthetic agents and medications used by Anesthesia.

Able to recognize, communicate, delegate, and coordinate management of emergence situations in a rapid and effective manner.

Provide direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process to assess, plan,impleme! nt and evaluate patient requirements as directed by the physic! ian;use medical equipment in accordance with standards;demonstrate continued competence in all facts of ambulatory surgery.

Check next day's schedule, If unfamiliar with the procedure, read up on it. Ensure each patient care area is supplied with necessary supplies and properly functioning equipment.

Accurately and thoroughly completes and reviews the preoperative prior to procedure time to include, identification of patients, completion of consent forms, Review of chart for completeness, Contacts appropriate individuals regarding and abnormalities.

Post Anesthesia Care Unit is proficient in assessing the patient's level of anesthesia emergence in accordance with policies and procedures and ASPAN standards.

Receiving report form OR nurse.

Monitors vital signs and report initial and any abnormalities to Anesthesiologist.

Assesses patient respiratory, cardiovascular, circulatory, and neurological status.

Assess tu! bes, drains, etc. for potency, drainage amount, character, and position.

Observe surgical site for bleeding.

Administers medications safely and accurately.

Executes physician's orders specified while in unit in a timely manner.

Implements patient comfort measures as appropriate.

Documents all observations and nursing care provided.

Prevents cross-contamination through frequent and proper hand washing.

Discharges patient to post-operative area according to physician's orders, patient's condition and standards of care.

collect all soiled and used supplies and take to decontamination area.

Take soiled trash, hazardous waste, and linen to linen/trash room; any hazardous trash will be placed in red bags.

Restock all the patient areas.

Put away all extra supplies.

Additional duties as assigned.

Education:
Current Tennessee RN License
BLS required ACLS Required.

Experience:
Minimum of three years ! knowledge and experience in an Recovery Room.
Prefer Ambulatory Surgery experience.
IV therapy skill preferred.
