Job Description: Provide assistance to the Department of Anesthesia to ensure its efficient delivery of patient care services in the Department of Surgery. Assist Anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (C.R.N.A) with preparing supplies and equipment for patient monitoring (e.g.

E.K.G., blood pressure) following established procedure in a prompt and efficient manner as observed by Anesthesiologists and/or Director of O.R. Services. Assist Anesthesiologists with preparing supplies and equipment needed to administer regional anesthesia (e.g., block kits) following established procedures as observed by Anesthesiologists and/or Director of O.R. Services.

Assist Anesthesiologists and C.R.N.A.s with preparing the patient for administration of anesthesia, including arterial pressure and central venous line setup and placement following established procedure as observed by Anesthesiologists and C.R.N.A.s. Assist with safely transporting, moving, and positioning patients, preserving patient privacy during transportation in accordance with established procedures as observed by department personnel. Assist in the assignment of scheduled and emergency operating room cases by monitoring and advising Anesthesiologists of case flow, as evidenced by efficient case flow. Admit Pain Clinic patients, assist patients with preparing for treatment, and schedule follow-up appointments as needed and observed by Anesthesiologists with no more than three complaints per annual review period.

Perform related functions to ensure efficient operation of the Department of Anesthesia under the direction of the Anesthesiologists. Answer telephone within three rings in a pleasant and courteous manner and assist caller, or relay accurate message to appropriate person with no more than three variances per annual review period. Maintain proper inventory of anesthesia supplies in operating rooms, by ordering replacement items using computerized system as needed based on supply and demand as observed by department staff. Maintain proper inventory level of drugs and supplies in work area and order replacement items using computerized system as needed based on supply and demand as observed by department staff.

Maintain an accurate daily logbook of surgical/anesthesia cases with no more than three variances per annual review period as evidenced in audit by the Department of Anesthesia. Assist with providing necessary equipment and sup plies for the administration of anesthesia to patients in other departments as needed and directed by the Anesthesiologist and/or C.R.N.A. Assist the department in working with the blood bank or laboratory to provide supplies and equipment needed for blood administration as observed by department staff. Coordinate scheduling of off-site anesthesia services with Anesthesiologists as needed and observed by Anesthesiologists.

Maintain order and asepsis of assigned work areas in order to ensure delivery of quality, efficient anesthesia and surgical services. Maintain asepsis of surgical instruments and supplies (e.g., laryngoscopes, intratracheal tubes) by cleaning, processing and storing instruments following established procedures as observed by Anesthesiologists. Maintain asepsis of anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment in the operating rooms by cleaning and storing equipment according to the manufacturers directions as observed by the Anesthesiologists. Maint ain asepsis of anesthesia equipment in the work area following guidelines established for proper cleaning of all anesthesia supplies and equipment (e.g., warming blankets, blood warmers) as observed by the Anesthesiologists.

Maintain asepsis and order of all anesthesia carts, block carts, and equipment following established procedures as observed by Anesthesiologists and C.R.N.A.s. Basic Qualifications: Experience : Medical terminology experience preferred. Operating room experience preferred. Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.

License or Certification: Licensure & Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
