Admissions and Recruitment Specialist – Outreach Services
Classification Title: Student Services Professional II
Classification Salary Range: $4,610 – $6,556 per month
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $4,610 per month.
The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
About the Department/Position:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Outreach and School Relations, the Admissions and Recruitment Specialist performs duties related to the recruitment and enrollment of K-16 students to CSUDH. Responsibilities include meeting prospective students and their families/support systems to provide information about enrollment and admission; these interactions will occur in individual and group settings. The incumbent plans, develops and conducts transcript evaluations, individual admission advisement, group admission advisement, and seminars. Also coordinates and recommends programs designed to assess and prepare incoming/prospective students for post-secondary education and develop a pipeline to DH. Provides lead work direction and training to student interns who support Admissions and Recruitment and yield activities, including Campus Tours, and New Student Orientation.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advises students from the prospective stage to enrollment ensuring students adhere to admission policy and requirements, financial aid policies and procedures, including students eligible for special programs and services such as Early Start, DHFYE and Student Support Services.
- Plans and conducts recruitment visits to schools/colleges.
- Designs and conducts oral presentations at schools/colleges.
- Provides on-site advising to prospective students which includes transcript assessment, subject requirements, and transfer requirements.
- Coordinates recruitment and yield events, recommends programmatic changes to improve events and assists with New Student Orientation, Early Assessment Program and Strategic Recruitment Initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field.
- Experience: The equivalent of two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
- Skills in advising and counseling students in individual and group settings, public speaking, communicating effectively in writing, handling complaints or concerns effectively.
- Rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions, and programs of the campus to which assigned.
- General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in student Affairs or related field. Recent experience working in Outreach, Recruitment and Admissions and experience with PeopleSoft.
- Knowledge of: CSU admission standard CSU and CSUDH enrollment policies, Enrollment Market Platform (EMP), Requirements for incoming first-year students including Freshmen and Transfer, CSUDH student employee hiring and evaluation processes. Skills in advising and counseling students in individual and group settings, public speaking, communicating effectively in writing, handling complaints or concerns effectively, working with EMP. Ability: provide exceptional customer service to all constituents, exceptional communication skills, plan, and coordinate events for large and smalls groups. Manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
