Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

TriStar Southern Hills has been a leader for 26 years in a wide range of state of the art healthcare, including emergency services, cardiology, vascular surgery, orthopaedics and oncology. Serving our community since October 15, 1979, TriStar Southern Hills continues to grow and evolve. Since that time, the hospital has grown to 132 beds and now serves three c! ounties, including Davidson, Williamson and Rutherford. TriSta! r Southern Hills medical staff currently has over 300 members representing more than 20 specialties. All are board certified or board eligible. We are a certified stroke center, which is enhanced by our new whole body, 8-slice per second CT scanner. In 2003, we were recognized again as an accredited chest pain center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers. We continue to provide quality heart care services, including everything from stent placements and angioplasties to cardiac catheterizations.
The TriStar Southern Hills Operating Room is a 10-suite unit serving all populations of patients with 70 surgeons representing ten specialties. Over 6,000 procedures are completed in our hospital every year.

TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center is currently looking for a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RN).

Responsibilities:
Demonstrates the facility's Standards of Performance, I SERVE values, and Patient Promise.
Assesses, monitor! s, records, reports, and follows through on symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
Creates and maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and modify the plan of care, as indicated by the patient's responses and conditions.
Delegates nursing tasks as appropriate and safe, but retains accountability for patient care
Provides individualized education for the patient, family, and or caregiver throughout the continuum of care.
Adheres to standards of safety and infection control, in the delivery of patient care.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and complies with all policies and procedures related to the performance of job duties
Gives patient status report to PACU nurse once procedure is completed Assessment of patient is completed according to unit policy.
Notifies surgeon and/or anesthesiologist of abnormal lab values and changes in pati! ent condition.
When assigned to standby call, responds within speci! fied timeframe.
Provides patient care with consideration of professional ethics. Is aware of hospital ethics policy and utilizes as appropriate.
Delivers medications according to policy.
Communicates with patients' family/significant other on an hourly basis and with any significant status change and appropriately documents.
Assists with positioning of patients, provides protection of pressure points, and keeps body parts in proper alignment. Routinely scrubs and circulates on assigned cases.
Performs surgical scrub according to procedure. Gowns and gloves self in accordance with gowning and gloving procedure.
Opens instrument tray, following Basic Aseptic Technique Policy and Procedure.
Inspects sterilization indicator. Notifies circulator if any instrument is missing, inoperative, or of suspect sterility.
Sets up instrument stand with drapes, sutures, power tools, and other instruments in accordance with the operating surgeon's Preference C! ard.
Opens drape pack, following basic aseptic technique. Assist first Assistant or surgeon in draping patient to establish the sterile field in\ accordance with AORN Standards and Recommended Practices for Perioperative Nursing.
Provides surgeon appropriate instruments and supplies, following sterile technique, in anticipation of surgeon's need or at surgeon's request.
Maintains own sterility and that of instruments until patient is no longer in room

Qualifications:
RN licensure by Tennessee Board of Nursing or a Board of Nursing from a compact state.
BLS from the American Heart Association.
Certification as a First Assistant (FA) required
CNOR preferred Must be competent in both scrub and circulating skills with a minimum of 2 years OR experience or have successfully completed advanced training for OR Clinical Specialties.
